Freelance Editing

I'm an experienced romance writer and editor with ten years experience. I've worked for Decadence Publishing, Breathless Press, E-topia, Clean Reads and other publishers. Most of the books I edited have four and five star reviews. (List of titles provided upon request.)

My edits are thorough and made with the reader in mind, using Word's track changes feature and comments. No changes are made to the manuscript without writer approval.

My usual editing process is as follows:

Three rounds of edits are made.

In the first round of edits, suggestions are made for organization/plot flow, pacing, characterization and readability in the first round of edits. These are made using track changes and many comments inviting author input. It is the author's choice whether or not to make the majority of these changes and they are made based solely on my experience as an editor and a reader, as well as a writer.

In the second round of edits, author changes and any re-organization  are reviewed; main focus of edits are on word choice and grammar. Editing suggestions are made inline using track changes, with comments for explanation. The author is responsible for reviewing and accepting the changes. These changes are made using The Chicago Manual of Style as an authority of style and grammar rules; changes are strongly recommended. (It is made clear that if grammar fixes and changes are not accepted, any negative reviews and comments regarding the book's grammar after publication are not the fault of this editor.)

The third round of edits are mainly to proof and clean up the manuscript in preparation for formatting for publication. Again, it is up to the author to review and accept the changes.

As an author myself, I am well-aware of how hard it is to share one's work with another person whose sole focus is to tear it to shreds and ask you to put it back together. I do NOT rewrite my clients stories, nor treat them and their babies with disrespect. My goal is to make the editing process as pain-free and professional as possible, with a solid, marketable, and good-review-ready product in the end.

Please see prices for my rates.

Thank you for your consideration. I hope to hear from you soon.

Cynthia
